Ex-soldier posts secrets on Net

A 31-year-old man was arrested in Athens yesterday after he posted on the Internet classified military information he obtained while serving as a conscript in the army, police said.

The suspect has been charged with espionage and violating personal data privacy laws after he allegedly posted on the Internet information concerning armed forces personnel, passwords used to access army bases and other details concerning military facilities.

Police said that the unnamed suspect served in the Greek army as an officer about three years ago and that he was placed in an office where he had access to classified military documents.

He had allegedly been holding on to the information since then, police added.

A search of his house uncovered a computer that contained the private files, while police are now looking into who may have downloaded the sensitive information.
