Olympic Airlines is expected to cancel or change 25 scheduled flights today, mostly domestic, as a result of the ongoing action by pilots of propeller planes. More than 10 flights were affected yesterday as the go-slow protest by pilots is set to enter a third week. A second C-130 Hercules transport plane carrying 7.5 tons of aid for Myanmar cyclone victims left Athens on Saturday, according to authorities. The first air force plane carrying aid, which took off from Athens on Thursday, arrived in Yangon and its cargo was unloaded, the Greek Foreign Ministry said. The ministry also said that its staff will stay in Yangon to make sure the aid reaches those for whom it is intended.

A coast guard patrol boat picked up 37 illegal immigrants and a suspected people trafficker off the small Dodecanese island of Agathonisi on Saturday, the Merchant Marine Ministry said. Officers said the 38-year-old suspected smuggler had sailed over from Turkey with the migrants in a wooden boat with the aim of dropping them off in Greece. They did not make public the nationalities of the migrants or the alleged trafficker. Meanwhile, border guards in northern Greece detained 23 immigrants entering the country illegally from Albania after stopping two vehicles near the own of Kastoria. The drivers escaped.

Police arrested a 17-year-old male in Alexandroupolis, northeastern Greece, who confessed to seven counts of theft in the last six months, authorities said yesterday. The youth confessed to have broken into six homes and one pharmacy, stealing about 2,500 euros in cash, eight gold sovereigns and three mobile phones. Police said they are searching for a second youth, aged 19, who is also believed to have taken part in the thefts.

An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale shook the area of Tenaros in southern Greece’s Mani late on Saturday. There were no reports of injuries or damages. The earthquake struck at 11.53 p.m. and its epicenter was 225 kilometers southwest of Athens.

Some 25,000 people took part in the 25th annual Athens Fun Run yesterday, which was dedicated to Greek mothers on the occasion of Mothers’ Day.
