Paros rape suspect was due for deportation, says police
The man suspected of conducting a brutal attack on a teenage girl in Paros had applied to return to Pakistan as part of a voluntary repatriation scheme funded by European Union subsidies, authorities revealed on Monday.
Police said the suspect had been due to fly out of Greece on Wednesday.
The 21-year-old, detained last week, faces charges of attempted manslaughter, rape and robbery.
He is due to face a prosecutor on Syros on Tuesday to give his deposition.
