Coast guards save migrants off Agathonisi

A coast guard patrol on Wednesday rescued 41 undocumented migrants after they slashed the rubber dinghy they were sailing in while trying to reach the coast of Agathonisi, in the eastern Aegean.

Meanwhile on Tuesday, a routine check of a ferry boat waiting to set off from the Ionian island of Zakynthos to the Italian port of Bari uncovered eight Syrian nationals hidden in makeshift compartments in a travel trailer. All eight were reported to be in good health.

Two Latvian nationals have been arrested on suspicion of people trafficking.
