SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras is due to meet European Central Bank president Mario Draghi in Frankfurt on Tuesday afternoon.
Their meeting is due to take place at 5.30 p.m. local time and the two men are expected to discuss Greece’s public debt, as well as how the ECB could contribute to helping Greece out of the crisis. SYRIZA’s head of economic policy, Yiannis Dragasakis, will accompany Tsipras in the meeting.
SYRIZA has also voiced its opposition to outgoing Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras being appointed Bank of Greece governor this month. The leftist party argues that Stournaras’s appointment would be politically motivated and that there should be wider consultation over who should take up the five-year term. It is expected that Tsipras will raise these concerns with Draghi.
