SYRIZA ahead of ND in new poll

Opposition SYRIZA was leading with 3 percentage points over conservative New Democracy in a new opinion poll published on Friday by the Efymerida ton Syntakton daily.

Conducted by Public Issue in view of Mays European Parliament elections, the survey showed the Leftist coalition leading with 19.5 percent and New Democracy coming in second with 16.5 percent.

The poll, conducted during the 1-8 April period, showed the Olive Tree Alliance standing at 5.5 percent, newcomer To Potami (The River) at 5 percent, the Greek Communist Party (KKE) at 4.5 percent, ultra-nationalst Golden Dawn at 4 percent and Independent Greeks and Democratic Left both standing at 2.5 percent.

The number of respondents whose vote was undetermined, including those who stated they were undecided, reached 36.5 percent.

A previous poll conducted by the same company during the 4-10 March period showed New Democracy and SYRIZA both earning 15.5 percent.
