One million euros earmarked to knock down illegal buildings
Up to 1 million euros will be made available to local authorities this year to demolish buildings that have been built illegally on Greeceís shoreline, Kathimerini has learnt.
So far a total of 2,327 such structures have been recorded but the money is not going to be enough to raze of all these buildings.
The money is being made available through the state-run Green Fund, which last year provided just 400,000 euros for the demolition of illegal buildings.
The structuresí demolition is also dependent on the content of the governmentís coastal bill, which was withdrawn earlier this month after environmental groups complained it relaxed restrictions on the use of Greeceís shoreline too much.
