Former Hellenic Postbank chairman bailed after deposition

Cleon Papadopoulos, former executive chairman of Hellenic Postbank (TT), was granted bail on Thursday after providing a deposition for magistrates investigating the scandal involving unsecured loans at the lender.

Papadopoulos has been charged in connection to the granting of one loan and the restructuring of two others taken out by a businessman who has also been charged.

Papadopoulos is accused of ignoring the bank’s regulations and failing to secure collateral for the loans.

He denies the charges and insists the loans were secured against the businessman’s assets.

Papadopoulos succeeded Angelos Filippidis at TT’s helm.

Filippidis was remanded in custody earlier this month after also being charged with approving unsecured loans. , Thursday February 20, 2014 (18:56)
