Education Minister Andreas Loverdos Monday asked university and technical college directors to lift obstacles to disabled applicants studying at higher education institutions.
In a letter, Loverdos urged the managers to ďrevoke provisions... which violate the principle of equality and the right to higher education.Ē
The move came less than a week after he stepped in to ensure that a partially blind honor student can attend university. The 18-year-old had been rejected from the Physics Department of Thessalonikiís Aristotle University due to regulations prohibiting people with upper-body mobility problems or visual impairment from studying at the department.
Loverdos ordered the university to assign a member of staff to act as the young manís guide during classes, noting that the ministry would cover the costs.
