Visitors at museums, archaeological sites, on the rise

Greek archaeological sites saw an increase in visitor numbers of 23 percent during the first months of 2013 and a 17.4 percent increase in their receipts compared with the corresponding period in 2012, the Hellenic Statistical Authority, ELSTAT, announced on Wednesday.

The first ten months of the current year also saw an increase of 15.7 percent in the number of visitors at local museums, and a 14.5 percent increase in their receipts, compared to the same period in 2012.

At the same time, local museums in October observed an increase of 17.5 percent in visitor numbers as well as a 28.2 percent increase in their receipts, compared to the same period the previous year, the agency reported.

The report also noted that visitors were up by 20.5 percent in terms of numbers at archaeological sites, in October, while observing a 16.7 increase in terms of receipts, compared to last year.
