Greek tourism benefits from bad British weather

British travel companies have been reporting a considerable increase in bookings for Greece and other Mediterranean destinations in the last few weeks due to the prolonged period of bad weather in the British Isles.

The Mark Warner firm has recorded a 20 percent rise in bookings for vacations abroad compared with last summer, with 63 percent of its bookings for Greece. Saga Holidays is reporting an annual 67 percent rise in bookings for Greece, while bookings for destinations within Britain have dropped by 13 percent year-on-year.

Leading tour operator Tui is seeing an average rise of 17 percent in bookings for all popular tourism destinations outside of Britain. In general, searching for holidays abroad by Britons on the Internet has grown by about 20 percent annually in the last month.
