EU denies 10 bln euro financing gap in Greece reported by German daily

Greece does not have a gap in its financing a spokesman for EU Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Ollie Rehn said on Wednesday.

Spokesman Simon O’Connor's comments were made in the wake of a report published by Germany’s daily Sueddeutsche Zeitung.

“German press reports of a 10 billion euro financing gap in Greece are wrong. The programme is fully funded for the next 12 months,” said O’Connor. “Any subsequent gap in the funding of the programme for Greece will be addressed in due course on the basis of facts not speculatin."

Reports by the German daily came a day before German Finance Minister Wolfang Schaeuble is scheduled to visit Greece.

According to another Germany daily, Handelsblatt, in Athens the German minister will offer the debt-stricken country 100 million euros for the development of a support fund for small and medium-sized companies.

During his official visit the German minister is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and his Greek counterpart Yiannis Stournaras as well as participate in a meeting organized by the Greek-German chamber of commerce.
