Doling out the blame

A large number of Greek students have lost the first semester as a result of the prolonged strike by administrative staff at key university institutions. No one party in this mess is exclusively responsible for the damage that has been caused.

The government is to blame for the education ministers amateurish and irresponsible handling of the matter. For their part, rectors failed to live up to the magnitude of the crisis. At the same time, unionists pushed things to a head because they had nothing to lose. And, finally, there were always those who hoped the university crisis would somehow fuel a broader uprising (in the end, their ambitions proved too big).

At the end of the day, all the turmoil was created for the sake of a very small number of employees (many of whom may actually get to keep their jobs). Parents and students have every right to be frustrated for again paying the price for the ineptitude and mistakes of third parties.
