Giving industry a helping hand

Greek industry is paying an inordinate amount of money to power its production units, raising yet one more issue that needs to be addressed as part of efforts to boost economic output.

It is ludicrous to believe that growth will return to Greece through exports while the country’s industry is being slammed by skyrocketing energy costs.

A small sector of heavy industry has not only managed to survive in this country but has also succeeded in excelling in terms of professionalism and competitiveness among its European peers. This vital part of the economy should not be allowed to sink any further than it already has due to the general problems being faced by all sectors of the economy.

The government must help it fight for its continued survival by making sure that it can afford to continue operating. You cannot demand exports and the creation of jobs on the one hand and choke the life out of the engine of the economy on the other.
