Ivkovic leaves Olympiakos bench due to fatigue

By George Georgakopoulos

A few days after the departure of Zeljko Obradovic from Panathinaikos’s bench, his compatriot Dusan Ivkovic ceased to be the coach of Greek and European champion Olympiakos, citing personal fatigue.

Olympiakos announced in a statement late on Friday evening that the 68-year-old coach, who has twice led the Reds to the European crown (in 1997 and this year) explained his personal reasons to the club and will only restrict himself to coaching the national team of Serbia.

“Mr Ivkovic has informed the club that he has decided to continue only at the Serb national team for reasons he has explained and that Olympiakos fully respects,” the club’s statement read.

“Mr Ivkovic also told the Olympiakos administration that should he decide to return to club coaching in the future, it will only be for Olympiakos.”

The latter served to dispel rumors suggesting that Ivkovic was ready to accept a proposal from a Turkish club.

“Duda” spent five seasons with Olympiakos, from 1996 to 1999 and from 2010 to 2012, leading the Piraeus giant to two Euroleague titles, two domestic championships and one Greek Cup.
