Conference program

Speakers include «green skyscrapers» architect Ken Yeang, «landscape healer» landscape designer Julie Bargmann of DIRT Studio in Charlottesville, Virginia, Greek architect Alexandros Tombazis, and «BedZED London zero-emissions development» director Benjamin Gill of BioRegional. Highlights of today's program are lectures at 9.30 a.m. and 11 a.m. on «Green Greece, Bioclimatic Architecture Today,» by Tombazis and Michalis Souvatzidis and Elli Georgiadou. At noon the focus is on «Materials for Sustainable Buildings,» courtesy of Corporate Partners Alumil (with Pavlos Vatavalis), Vechro (with Aristoteles Nikolakopoulos, chemical engineer and strategic planning director) and Eternit (with Liliane Blin). At 6 p.m., Dimitris Hasapis of the Center for Renewable Energy Sources (CRES), Greek Ministry of Development, will give a lecture on «Renewable Energy Sources for Buildings» with the cooperation of EnergyReS. The keynote presentation of Ecoweek, open to the general public, will be a lecture by landscape designer Julie Bargmann at the Cotsen Hall, American School of Classical Studies, Kolonaki, at 8 p.m. on «Healing the Landscape.» Saturday's events include lectures on green examples in Europe, green architecture in the world, green projects by ARUP in Greece and abroad, green Greece, and bioclimatic architecture today. On Sunday and Monday the participants will be visiting examples of passive solar apartment buildings and houses in Athens and on the island of Aegina.
