LAOS questions poor showing in opinion polls

The nationalist Popular Orthodox Rally (LAOS) has rejected opinion polls which show that its support has dropped in the wake of its brief participation in the interim government.

The right-wing party?s parliamentary spokesman Asterios Rontoulis said the surveys, which show LAOS hovering just above the 3-percent threshold for entering Parliament, were ?nowhere near reality.?

?Polling companies are the most profitable firms,? he told Vima FM, questioning the reliability of the survey results.

Rontoulis also cast doubt on whether the far-right Chrysi Avgi would gain enough votes to get into Parliament.

A poll conducted by VPRC for Epikaira magazine suggested New Democracy is leading on 22.5 percent with PASOK and the Communist Party (KKE) both on 12.5.

The Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA) has 12 percent in the poll and Democratic Left follows on 11.5. The new nationalist party, Independent Greeks, garners 11 percent, the neo-fascist Chrysi Avgi 3.5 percent and Popular Orthodox Rally (LAOS) 3 percent.
