Bill on construction at Elliniko tweaked again
The government has reduced the height of seafront buildings that can be built on the site of the former airport at Elliniko, southern Athens, just a few hours after increasing the limit to 16 meters.
The change in the draft law that paves the way for construction on the land – which is to be leased to private investors – took place late on Wednesday night. The new height limit for buildings that will face the sea is 11 meters.
The bill offers further incentives to investors interested in bidding for the lease of the 620-hectare site. During the early part of Wednesday?s parliamentary, the government made an adjustment that would allow greater commercial use of the seafront area of the site, which stretches to 3.5 kilometers.
The amendment allows investors to use 40 percent of the seafront section, almost 10 hectares, to construct residential property. This equates to roughly 230,000 square meters of housing.
The bill allows the construction of buildings, including for entertainment and business purposes, totaling up to 3.7 million square meters. Some 2,000 square meters will be set aside for the creation of a park. The deadline for tenders is April 17.
