Vitsaxis recognized for contribution to Europe’s unification

Honorary ambassador, philosopher and poet Vassilis Vitsaxis, corresponding member of the Moscow Academy and the Indian Academy of Arts and Sciences, has won the European Foundation’s European Merit gold medal. The official ceremony took place on November 15 at the foundation’s headquarters in Luxembourg, where former Prime Minister and former European Commission President Jacques Santers awarded the gold medal to Vitsaxis «in recognition of his efforts and contribution to the unification of the peoples of Europe in peace, liberty and fraternity.» Vitsaxis has been ambassador to Washington, Ankara, Buenos Aires, New Delhi and the United Nations, and was Greece’s permanent representative on the Council of Europe. In his speech of thanks, he stressed the importance of determining the final form the European Union will take.
