Photo exhibition of Patriarch’s pilgrimages

Known as the «green» patriarch because of his keen interest in environmental issues and the organization of floating conferences addressed by experts in the field, Ecumenical Patriarch Vartholomaios is also a keen pilgrim, as befitting the prelate of the Orthodox Church, traveling to the four corners of the world on behalf of Christianity and Orthodoxy. His first decade as patriarch is the subject of a photographic exhibition by photo journalist Nikos Manginas, who follows him on his pilgrimages. The exhibition opens tonight at 6.45 p.m. at the Imvros Association of Athens, 80 Eleftherios Venizelos, N. Smyrni. The patriarch is a native of the island of Imvros, now part of Turkey. The exhibition’s Athens showing follows one in Istanbul, beginning in November 2001. It will go next month to Thessaloniki and to New York in March of the coming year, and then the Byzantine Museum in Athens in October.
