Museums get ready for a late one

A number of private and public local cultural institutions will be participating in events to celebrate the European Night of Museums 2011 on Saturday, May 14.

The idea for the nocturnal cultural celebration came from the French Ministry of Culture and Communication in 2005 and has since grown into a broad event marked by museums across the continent.

The European Night of Museums is a precursor of International Museum Day, which takes place every year around May 18.

The European Night of Museums includes free access to participating venues, which also organize their own special events. Last year, more than 3,000 European institutions took part. Meanwhile, this year?s theme is ?Museums and Memory.?

Welcome drinks, dance events, a screening of the 2010 movie ?Confucius? and an exhibition of Jiang Guo Fang?s large-scale paintings of Beijing?s Forbidden City are on the menu at the B
