Electronic publications on Aegean

Two new albums, a CD and a video CD on the culture of the Aegean Sea, which are the fruit of a collaboration between the Ministry of the Aegean and Melissa Publishers, were presented at the Benaki Museum in the presence of at least 800 representatives of the visual arts, archaeology, architecture and academia. With speakers that included Minister of the Aegean Nikos Sifounakis; the general secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Lina Mendoni; Director of the Benaki Museum Angelos Delivorrias and a number of academics, an attempt was made to cast light on the mobilization of scientific personnel required to create these highly demanding works. Melissa is a publishing house with experience in bringing out academic albums on traditional architecture. The Ministry of the Aegean has also turned to the production of similar works. This alliance to promote the historical character of the Aegean has furnished new tools to enable the dissemination and understanding of the cultural facets of all the island groups. Specifically, the albums «Islands of the Aegean: Architecture» and «The Aegean: Art and Culture» have been published. The latter lays emphasis on meditative thought and the writings by poet Odysseas Elytis, among others. The «Archaeological Atlas of the Aegean» is the new CD that consists of a fuller electronic version of the work with the same title brought out by the Ministry of the Aegean and the University of Athens in 1998. The video CD «Aegean Archipelago» includes a short-length movie, co-produced by the Ministry of the Aegean, the University of the Aegean and KINO productions, directed by A. Hadziandreou with music by Vassilis Papathanassiou.
