CD-ROM; Cypriot poetry

The National Library of Greece is launching a new CD-ROM it has created to help libraries classify their material. The CD-ROM contains an archive of 118,409 established headings in use at the National Library, including names of individuals and organizations, subjects and geographical names. It also provides cross references to non-established headings. The entries are classified according to the Unimarc system, and will assist libraries to classify their own holdings in uniform fashion. The official launching is being held at the amphitheater of the Goethe Institute, Omirou 11, on June 25 at 7 p.m. All libraries in Greece are entitled to a free copy of the CD-ROM. For information, contact the catalog section of the National Library, tel 210.639.4147. From Cyprus The Stoa tou Vivliou book arcade and the House of Cyprus are jointly holding an exhibition of poems and manuscripts from Cyprus. All the exhibits have been taken from the archives of writer and scholar Foivos Stavridis. Among the rare items on display are volumes of verse, copies of Greek and Cypriot periodicals devoted to Cypriot poetry, manuscripts, letters and photographs. All but a few of the books were printed in Cyprus. Cypriot Cultural Attache Nasa Patapiou will open the exhibition today at 12.30 p.m. The speakers are Stavridis and Manos Haritatos, president of the Hellenic Literary and Historical Archive. The exhibition is part of a general tribute to Cypriot poetry being held to mark the accession of Cyprus to the European Union. Runs June 19-27, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. at the Stoa tou Vivliou book archade, 5 Pesmazoglou & Stadiou, tel 210.325.3989.
