Puppet shows and storytelling at Fones Cafe run to next week

For a few unique shows, the world of dolls and puppets will take over the Fones Cafe in Neos Cosmos, with performances each night involving puppets, shadow puppet theater, dancers and musicians. Dolls, puppets and various figures of all shapes and sizes, tell their own story and lure the audience’s imagination down mysterious paths. Part of the Second Tribute to Puppeteers and Storytellers, the shows will run to February 6 after starting on Friday with the Prassein Aloga Art Puppet Theater’s «Princess with the Green Tail,» directed by Emmanouela Kapokaki and Maria Papastefanaki. On Saturday, the Together Everywhere puppet theater from Vassilika in Evia presented «Acrobatics,» a show that combined puppets, pantomime and plenty of music, while yesterday, puppeteer Pavlos Kavvadias performed the show «Movements of Mice and Cats» and Fransisco Brito and Voula Kourou performed «Moments of Love.» Tonight, Riccardo Morrison, Joe Tornabene and Constantinos Michos will present an evening of music and dance, and the following day, the Agiousagia puppet theater will present a show of traditional Fasoulis puppets. Stella Arseni, Iro Theodorou and Vasso Giareni will perform Wednesday, while on Thursday the Pnoi Puppet theater will perform «Stories that End in Cats» and Kyriaki Doxara will give a performance involving puppets and body theater. The puppet theater part of the tribute will end with Angeliki Gounaridi’s show «I Will Tell You a Story from the Bottom of the Lake» and Evi Aresti’s «Wildflower, Don’t Sleep» on Friday, and shadow puppet theater performances by Ilias Karellas and Athos Danelis on Saturday. Storytelling shows will start on Sunday, February 1, with Lili Lambrelli’s «Fairy Tales of Love and Watermelons.» She will be followed by the Fairy Tales group’s «Ball of Wool,» which will recount stories that slipped to the end of the ball of wool on Feburary 2. Anthe Vassilopoulou will narrate «Fairy-Tale Love» on February 3, Mania Maratou will tell «Stories of the Labyrinth» on February 4, Agni Stroubouli will present «A Tree Grew out of his Heart» on February 5 and the tribute will end on February 6, with Sasa Voulgari’s «A Thousand and One Nights.»
