Readings, LBF and launches

The voices of three women poets who are also academics will be heard in «Voices of Identity,» the 23rd event in the «Poetic Forum» series at the Stoa tou Vivliou book arcade on Monday at 8 p.m. Frangiski Abatzopoulou and Anteia Frantzi both teach Modern Greek at the Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, and Liana Sakelliou teaches English at Athens University. The speakers are Poet Giorgos Veis and Professor Euripides Garantoudis; actors Katia Gerou, Olia Lazaridou and Mania Papadimitriou will read selected poems, while Yiannis Zouganelis will offer musical accompaniment on the trombone. London Book Fair The London Book Fair is the premier venue for the international rights market and a must for literary agents, publishers and everyone else in the book world. Running March 14-16 at the Olympia Center, the LBF attracts participants from around the world. Kathimerini English Edition will be attending the fair again this year. Watch this space for news. International publishers meet The 21st International Publishers Exhibition is taking place in Thessaloniki March 20-21 at the Hotel Capsis. The focus is on education, with 28 seminars on recent developments in foreign-language teaching. Speakers include representatives of the major players in the foreign-language examinations field: Michael Carty and Mona Slksek (Cambridge ESOL examinations), Roger House (Oxford University Press) and Christopher Medalis (TOEFL), and leading Greek publishers John Boukouvalas, Costas Grivas and Addie Kostakou. Visitors will be able to inspect the latest English, French, German, Italian and Spanish books and teaching material, and meet publishers, authors and representatives of software companies and international examination centers. New titles Among the speakers launching Stratis Balaskas’s book «A Marble for Imvros – A Fairy Tale but True, Alas» on Tuesday are Ecumenical Patriarch Vartholomaios, writer Lefteris Papadopoulos and the Eleftherotypia newspaper’s editor, Seraphim Fyntanidis. The following day it is the turn of the National Gallery’s director, Marina Lambraki-Plaka, to launch her latest book, «Italian Renaissance Art and Society – Art and Antiquity» (Kastaniotis), at the Cycladic Art Museum.
