Special Russian visitors come to Kathimerini
Russian Ambassador Andrei Vdovin visited the offices of Kathimerini on April 6 at the invitation of Kathimerini’s board chairman Aristides Alafouzos. He was accompanied by his second in command Alexei Popov, political adviser Sergei Filimonov, and first security and cultural affairs official Sergei Foshkin. The main topic of conversation was the Olympic Games: «We will help make them safe and successful,» promised Vdovin. Other topics were Cyprus (on which Russia is informed and expects further information from Greece), Russia’s improved relations with the United States, NATO and the European Union. A career diplomat who speaks four languages fluently – «though not Greek, yet» – the ambassador arrived in Athens last December. He and his wife Ludmila have two children and a grandchild, Alexandra.
