Greek art is on the move as Olympic fever starts to build

It was not only the Olympic Flame that left on a world tour on Thursday. «All of Greece is traveling everywhere, fulfilling the Olympic spirit in sport and art,» writes Alekos Fasianos, who is currently in Tokyo, where the Galleria Grafica Tokyo has been showing an exhibition titled «Olympic Athletes» since May 24. Due to close today, the exhibition also includes the Olympic stamps designed by Fasianos for Hellenic Post. The artist will be back in Athens on Wednesday, June 9, at the Iris Gallery (12, Antinoros St, near the Caravel Hotel), where Mariza Kalogeropoulou-Fasianou will present a portfolio of drawings by Fasianos published by Dimitris A. Angelopoulos, a childhood friend of the artist, with verses by the Iranian poet Hamid Fulatvad, also a friend from Paris. «You see, friendship makes art,» said Fasianos. The title of the English-language, limited edition is «Twelve Olympic Odes.» The poems have been translated into English from the French by John Taylor. One of the illustrations, shown here, is the «Torchbearer,» which is the poster accompanying the Olympic Flame on its journey.
