Understanding the meaning of ‘peace’

Following the shot put events at the Olympics, a performance on the subject of the Olympic Truce will take place in Ancient Olympia this Saturday, September 18. The performance is being organized by the Cultural Olympiad and directed by Spyros Evangelatos. «Olympia-Peace» will be presented at Ancient Olympia’s Floka Theater. Based on excerpts from works by Homer, Pindar, Aeschylus, Sophocles, Euripides and Aristophanes, among others, the production’s idea is for the audience to gradually realize the importance of the word «peace.» Based on speech, music and motion, the director has developed the production in a rather abstract, yet warm, space – where lighting and projections will also follow the developments on stage. Besides directing, Spyros Evangelatos has also selected and translated the excerpts, Giorgos Patsas designed the costumes and sets, Dimitris Maragopoulos composed the music, Philippos Koutsaftis was in charge of lighting and Isidoros Sideris acted as choreographer. The cast includes prominent actors Olga Tournaki, Giorgos Moschidis and Nikos Haralambous. Admission is by invitation only, available from the Municipality of Ancient Olympia.
