Cultural treats in autumn Athens

The beginning of the new cultural fall season in Athens has many surprises in store, including a children’s musical staged for the first time in Greece, an interesting collaboration between the newly founded dance group Drapetes and the Orchestra of Colors, as well as a colorful spectacle with famous jugglers, acrobats and magicians. The Arts Center of Halandri will host American playwright Sarah Froeber’s musical «Wheelchair Dancer» in October. It is a tender play with plenty of action, dance and Mike Hammer’s wonderful music and appeals to all ages. The show’s leading character is Amy, a young girl who is left disabled after an accident but nevertheless keeps up her positive attitude and pursues her great dream, which is to dance. The topic is particularly relevant to the Paralympic Games which ended this week. Virtually on the other side of the capital, at Pangrati’s Coronet Theater, «Variete: The Circus Theater Show,» will be staged from October 22 until mid-December. Well-known jugglers and acrobats will join forces under the direction of acclaimed German variete director Udo Pueschel and award-winning magician of Greek descent, George. The other treat is the first production of the Drapetes dance group, a collaboration between the Orchestra of Colors and the Greek Film Center, called «Harin Paidias,» which will be staged at the Trianon Filmcenter for three nights only, October 26-28. The show was conceived and choreographed by Katerina Kasioumi and the original music is by Costis Kritsotakis.
