Rapturous welcome for Ashkenazy

A performance at the Herod Atticus theater was held to honor the late Gina Bachauer and the aims of the music organization that bears the Greek pianist’s name. The London Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of Vladimir Ashkenazy, played a charming program of works by Mozart – with a piano solo by Ashkenazy – and Dvorak. An enthusiastic reception by the packed theater led to three encores. The evening of August 27 will go down in the history of the theater, along with other great performances which filled the Herod Atticus up to the heavens, as Nureyev once did.
