Statue of Aristotle Onassis to be unveiled on September 15

Nidri in Lefkada has not forgotten what it owes toAristotle Onassis, who put the fishing village on the map when he bought the deserted island of Skorpios, opposite it. When Onassis and his children Alexandros and Christina vacationed on Skorpios, they used to cross over to Nidri to see people, eat at tavernas and talk to the locals. The village has already honored Onassis by naming a beach after him. Now on September 15, Onassis Foundation President Stelios Papadimitriou will unveil a statue of Onassis, following a memorial service at the Nidri church, opposite the graves of Onassis and his children at Panayitsa. The Onassis Foundation and island authorities have issued the invitation. The departure will be from the Onassis Foundation’s office at Amalias 56 on Saturday at 10 a.m.
