French Institute in Athens to host Women’s Day art, music special

The French Institute in Athens will celebrate Women’s Day with a combination of visual arts and music. Artist Dimitris Mytaras will present posters and lithographs of women in the institute’s bistro, while the building’s second floor will host some of his original works. At the same time (March 7-28), photographs by poet Nikiforos Vrettakos will be on display in the bistro. If you are wondering what Mytaras and Vrettakos have in common, you can find out at the concert that will take place in the institute’s auditorium on Monday, March 7. At 8 p.m., composer Panayiotis Constantakopoulos will present his compositions «Thola Potamia» to poetry by Nikiforos Vrettakos and – a premiere – «Logia Anemou» to poetry by Mytaras. The orchestra will feature interpreters Andreas Kouloubis, Angeliki Kathariou and Yiannis Thomopoulos and an eight-member orchestra comprising musicians Evangelos Christopoulos, Nikos Ginos, Giorgos Thomopoulos, Marina Kislitsina, Stella Kypreou, Giorgos Pavlakos, Dimitris Marinakis and Evangelos Zografos. Constantakopoulos has composed a large number of works, including «20 Songs for Folk Voices,» to the poetry of Vrettakos, «Ten Songs,» to the poetry of Dionysios Solomos, «Philopatris,» to the poetry of Andreas Kalvos, and more. His works have been performed at the Athens Concert Hall and abroad. Before Monday’s concert, Dimitris Mytaras will give out signed copies of his book «Nychta» (Night), which has just been published and contains a number of his poems.
