Cacoyannis, Morgenstern do ‘Lysistrata’

Internationally acclaimed actress and philhellene Maia Morgenstern is returning to Greece for a run of performances at the Athens Concert Hall on April 21, 22 and 23. She will be performing all the female roles in Michael Cacoyannis’s adaptation of Aristophanes’ «Lysistrata» (in cabaret version), while the award-winning Vladimir Ivanov will perform all the male roles. Cacoyannis’s involvement with the Greek playwright’s masterpiece dates back over 30 years, when, in New York, the director staged the play with Melina Mercouri on Broadway in 1972. The music from that production, by Peter Link, will also feature in the Athens performances. The performances, furthermore, will be in English, translated and adapted by Cacoyannis himself, who has also written lyrics for the songs. The sets and costumes of the production are designed by Yiannis Metsikoff, the lighting is by Eleftheria Deco and the special effects and video work are by Yiannis Mastoris. The music is supervised by Alkis Kolias, who also plays the piano, while Irene Karayianni accompanies on vocals and Nikos Touliatos on percussion. Athens Concert Hall, 1 Kokkali & Vas. Sofias.
