Living legend Patti Smith to treat Athens gig-goers at Lycabettus Theater

Singer-songwriter, poet and artist Patti Smith is scheduled to come to Athens to perform at the Lybacettus Theater on July 13. An elegant lyricist and iconoclastic rocker, Smith has influenced generations of aspiring artists by imbuing her bare-souled poetry with gritty vocals and guitar-studded laments. Born in New Jersey in 1946, Smith spent her teenage years reading Rimbaud and Baudelaire and admiring Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan and the Velvet Underground. She moved to New York with a dream to join the city’s underground music scene. Her dream came true, and she debuted as a musician in 1975 with her debut album, «Horse.» The album was hailed as revolutionary and admired for its street-smart storytelling and direct-hit artistry. Her most recent album, «Trampin’,» was released last year. The Lycabettus concert will feature tracks from this work, which offers the same impassioned repudiation of our time as «Horse» did in the 1970s. The event is produced by Didi Music Big Star Promotion.
