The world of wine at Oenorama

Both professional and amateur oenophiles will be able to revel at Oenorama 2006 this weekend, as Greece’s leading wine, spirits and viti-vinicultural exhibition opens its doors today at the EKEP exhibition center on the Athens-Lamia national highway. Organized by Vinetum, this year’s Oenorama motto is «One Hundred Percent Wine.» The trade fair first appeared on the wine map in 1994 and has since been organized every two years. Over time, it has grown to reflect the kind of growth that defines the world of Greek wine in general. This year, more than 250 exhibitors are expected to welcome over 12,000 visitors. Showcased in the trade fair are Greek and international wines, traditional Greek distillates (such as ouzo and tsipouro), international spirits, viti-vinicultural equipment and various assorted services. Events This year’s novelty is the creation of the «Winetasting Square,» an area dedicated to the most representative Greek wines. The space is designed for visitors who wish to get acquainted with local produce and might feel lost amid the exhibition’s thousands of labels. The fair will also feature a gourmet restaurant, and visitors are advised to check out a list of related events including wine tastings and lectures. The EKEP exhibition center is situated on the 12th km of the Athens-Lamia national road in Metamorphosis. Opening hours: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is 15 euros.
