Onassis heiress to attend equestrian event in Greece

Athena de Miranda, no longer Onassis-Roussel since her marriage to the Brazilian equestrian Alvaro Alfonso de Miranda Neto, is to attend equestrian events in Markopoulo near Athens next month as a spectator, not as a competitor. The Greek Equestrian Federation had originally announced that Athena was to compete in the European Young Equestrians’ Championship, but apparently that is not the case. The federation’s president, Isidoros Kouvelos, spoke on the telephone to Athena’s coach, the Brazilian Nelson Pesoa, who apparently said that in his opinion Athena was not ready for the championship. «She is an Onassis and must be ready if she is going to compete,» he reportedly said. So in all probability Athena will come to watch, with her husband, so the event will not just be a sporting attraction but will also be a focus for the paparazzi.
