Ballet extravaganza at Herod Atticus Theater this Sunday

Soloists from the Kirov and Bolshoi ballets will present a dance panorama with ballet classics at the Herod Atticus Theater next week. «Carmen» will meet «Giselle,» to be followed by «Romeo and Juliet» and «Raymonda» on Sunday, in a unique gala organized by the Elva company. The event will feature Russian ballet stars including Farukh Ruzimatov, Diana Vishneva, Sergei Philin, Ilze Liepa, Nadezhda Gracheva, Eugene Ivanchenko and Tatiana Tchernobrovkina, among others, who will be accompanied by a 10-member corps de ballet from the Bolshoi Theater. The artful choreographies of classical masters, such as Marius Petipa, will meet the neo-classical choreographers Mikhail Fokin and Alexander Gorsky and the modernists Maurice Bejart and Kenneth MacMillan. The program includes extracts from «Swan Lake» and «Don Quixote,» but also works by Piazzolla and Mahler. The duet from the 1862 ballet «The Pharaoh’s Daughter,» which the Bolshoi recently revived, will also be presented in Greece for the first time.
