Theoharakis Visual Art and Music Foundation in Athens

The new Theoharakis Visual Art and Music Foundation opened its doors this week, with Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis, Culture Minister Michalis Liapis and honorary New Democracy party President Constantine Mitsotakis as the guests of honor. Businessman and artist Vassilis Theoharakis and his wife Marina have created a wonderful setting in three marble halls for their art collection with works by Spyros Papaloukas, at the corner of Vassilissis Sofias Avenue and Merlin Street. The paintings were donated by the artist’s daughter Mina before her death. The three halls each represent stages in the development of his art from Paris, Mt Athos, Aegina, Paros, Salamina and Mytilene. Karamanlis expressed his pleasure that this great collection was «finally accessible to the public.» «Fifty years after (the artist’s) death, he continues to provide convincing answers to the eternal question of what defines Greekness.»
