Greece to host revival world premiere of Martha Graham’s ‘Clytemnestra’

he Martha Graham Dance Company has chosen Greece as the setting for the world premiere of the revival of «Clytemnestra.» The legendary 1958 production bears the signature of Graham, one of the most important personalities in the history of contemporary dance. The performance will take place at the Athens Concert Hall from Thursday to Saturday, two months before its American premiere at the Kennedy Center in Washington. The premiere of «Clytemnestra» 50 years ago starred Graham herself, who, at 64, was still performing. Now, 17 years after her death, the production has been revived using her costumes, the music of Egyptian composer Halim El-Dabh, sets by American-Japanese sculptor Isamu Noguchi and lighting by Jean Rosenthal. The 50-year celebration of the work’s original premiere will include a world tour, which will begin in the USA and move on to Berlin, Paris, London, Sydney, Melbourne, Beijing and Tokyo.
