A daring plunge into memory

Jasmin Vardimon, the London-based award-winning choreographer from Israel, will celebrate her company’s 10-year anniversary at the ACS Arts Center later this week. Postponed from December, the Jasmin Vardimon Company will stage «Yesterday» from Friday to Sunday. The production is a new, inventive and daring choreography, which includes excerpts of Vardimon’s previous work as well as new pieces, live multimedia and animation. A keen observer of human behavior, Vardimon has developed her own style, which features detailed and powerful movement, an underlying sense of humor as well as the use of text and multimedia. In «Yesterday,» Vardimon has turned memories and experiences into a contemporary dance performance. What at first glance might seem a provocatively aggressive, relentless and ironic choreography is in fact a work full of compassion, sensitivity and humor. It explores contemporary human realities and the irrational aspects of our daily lives, producing a powerful and intensely beautiful spectacle. Apart from Vardimon’s eight skilled and dedicated dancers, the show further features an important game of shadow and light as well as video projections that focus on the details and reveal the feelings and reactions of both the performers and the audience. «Yesterday» premiered in September 2008 in the UK and received a warm welcome from dance experts and audience members alike.
