Joan Miro lithographs in Athens

Following a large-scale retrospective exhibition in Thessaloniki, Athenian audiences are about to get an up-close look at the art of Catalan surrealist Joan Miro. As of February 19, on display in the Cervantes Institute’s exhibition hall will be 34 lithographs from the «Ubu aux Baleares» series, 15 lithographs stemming from the 1971 «Le Lezard aux plumes d’or» series, 12 models from the «Gaudi» series along with documents, sketches and notes, all part of an exhibition co-organized by the Teloglion Foundation in Thessaloniki, the Pilar and Joan Miro Foundation in Majorca, the Ramon Llull Institute and the Spanish Embassy in Athens. The exhibition will be on display at the Cervantes Institute until May 30. A few days after its opening, on February 26, the Museum of Greek Children’s Art will present the «Parea me ton Miro» (Hanging out with Miro) exhibition. Going on display will be paintings and three-dimensional works created by children participating in the three-month and eight-month visual arts workshops currently being held by the museum. Also part of the upcoming show of the children’s art are two original color Miro lithographs titled «L’enfance d’Ubu» (Ubu’s childhood), on loan from the Teriade Museum in Mytilene. Sponsoring the exhibition is the National Bank of Greece, with Yiota Kalliakmani and Theano Kottaridi acting as curators. The exhibition will run to July 23. Meanwhile at the Teloglion Foundation in Thessaloniki, the exhibition-tribute to the Catalan surrealist runs to February 5.
