Theater’s 35th anniversary

The Thessalian Theater, the first professional regional theater company to be established in Larissa, is celebrating the 35th anniversary of a highly productive career. The company was founded in 1975. The anniversary coincides with the return of founding member director Costas Tsianos, who had spent a total of 22 years with the company – of which 17 were as artistic director. Commemorating the occasion, the theater is staging Marios Pontikas’s «I Diathiki» (The Will) in Larissa, a play which has already been warmly received by local audiences. The production is directed by Tsianos and features the music of Dionysis Tsaknis. The sets and costumes are designed by Eleni Stroulia and it stars Dimitris Kalantzis, Periklis Karakonstantoglou, Lily Meleme and Takis Chryssikakos. The play is the theater adaptation of Dimitris Hatzis’s short story «I diathiki tou kathigiti» (The Professor’s Will), which was written especially for the company years ago and has greatly contributed to the development of the theater’s artistic profile. Next summer, as part of the celebrations, the Thessalian Theater is planning to stage the satirical revue «Oi agapitikoi tis voskopoulas» (The Lovers of the Shepherd Girl), in a classic mise en scene.
