Music and words in tandem
Words and music come together every year, with well-known actors narrating texts and the Orchestra of Colors complementing the excerpts with original compositions. The artistic director of the program is Ioulita Iliopoulou and the venue remains unaltered as well: the Melina Mercouri Foundation (9-11 Polygnotou, Plaka). All in all, the project aims to promote and nurture the organic relationship between literature and music. Titled «Fifth Season,» this year’s series of events kicks off on Monday, March 8, and features a children’s theme. «Peter Pan: The Story of Lost Childhood,» a text by Kathleen Kelley-Laine, about her own lost childhood years, is the title of the opening event and will showcase actress Maria Nafpliotou and music by Stathis Gyftakis. The rest of the series feature texts by Yiannis Efstathiadis, Yiannis Atzakas, Celine Curiol, Sotiris Dimitriou and Yiannis Zouganelis, among others, as narrated by the likes of Yiannis Fertis, Dimitris Kataleifos, Paschalis Tsarouchas and Minas Hatzisavvas, among others. On the music front, original compositions include works by Nikos Platyrachos, Alkis Baltas and Alexandra Papastefanou. Admission to events is 10 euros.
