Lighting up the holiday season

Now that winter seems to be making its way toward us, the Creative Gallery in central Athens has been seized by the festive Christmas spirit and has invited a group of artists to display their chandeliers, lamps, lighting fixtures and home decorations. With an eye on adaptability, artist Panayiota Alexopoulou has designed a series of lamps of soft metal and feathers in silver, white and gold that can be shaped to fit any corner of the home. In another of her series, her «Spiritual Lights» are adorned with stones collected from the Greek islands to give an earthy, rough-and-ready feel. Fairy tales are the basis of Antonia Bletsa’s inspiration, as she constructs conical paper floor lamps of all sizes that act much like a shadow theater backdrop for the colors and shapes that are reflected from within, while France’s Agnes Petit makes a fashion statement with her «Snow Bags,» a collection of romantic handbags made of white, shiny paper. Dimitris Xanthoulis, on the other hand, goes for a more glamorous look, proposing chandeliers twinkling with crystals and amethysts for a greater touch of class. Evharis also opts for more luxuriant materials as she makes a living room set of colorful silk cushion covers and lampshades that give a Venetian feel to a room. The gallery also displays jewelry made of precious and semiprecious stones, as well as a wide range of accessories. All the items on display are on sale.
