The Regional Authority of the Southern Aegean, the Municipality of Kea and the Friends of Kea Society are co-organizing an international conference marking the 100th anniversary of two significant World War I shipwrecks, the S/S Burdigala and the HMHS Britannic (the Titanic’s sister ship). Both vessels were sunk by mines laid by the German submarine U73 in the Kea Channel. The conference is also intended to serve as a commemorative event as well as promote the island as a leading diving and tourist destination.
