Madama Butterfly | Athens | May 31 – June 7

The Greek National Opera’s summer series gets under way on May 31 with Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly.” This is the first time in five years that the GNO’s first summer production will be performed at the Herod Atticus Theater, on the southwestern slope of the Acropolis. Directed by Hugo de Ana, who has also designed the sets and costumes, the production stars Cellia Costea, Stefano Secco, Dimitris Paksoglou and Dionysios Sourbis, and others, while the conductor is Lukas Karytinos. The performances, which start at 9 p.m. on May 31, June 2-4 and 7, form part of the Festival Athens. Ticket prices vary. More information on the show and ticket purchases can be found at www.nationalopera.gr.
