The Unknown Balkans | Athens | June 2-3

A series of panel discussions and cultural content related to the tumultuous history and complicated sociopolitical makeup of the Balkan region will be presented at The Hub in central Athens on June 2 and 3. Guest speakers include Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dimitris Kourkoulas and Tobias Flessenkemper, Senior Fellow and Balkans project director of the Centre International de Formation Europeenne (CIFE) in Nice. Among the discussion topics are “Cultural Heritage in the Post-Conflict Balkans,” “New Authoritarianism in the Balkans,” and “Skopje 2014.” Cultural content includes photo presentations from Kosovo and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and a screening of the award-winning short film “Home,” about the plight of refugees. “The Unknown Balkans” is organized by ELIAMEP’s South-East Europe Program.
