OTE pushes general index to slight gains

Equities ended 0.20 percent higher yesterday on the back of gains in OTE Telecom as the market tracked advancing European bourses from a distance. «OTE has generally outperformed recently if we exclude a few sessions. Overall, it is a defensive pick which offers an attractive dividend yield of about 6.5 percent,» said a telecoms analyst. OTE, with gains of almost 10 percent for the year, rose 1.23 percent to 11.52 euros while telecoms firmed 0.49 percent. The benchmark general index ended at 1,679.43 points, finishing the week 5.2 points higher. Blue chips rose 0.34 percent to 832.66 points. Mid-caps fell 0.34 percent and small-caps shed 0.28 percent. Turnover was 50.78 million euros, with 14.8 million shares changing hands. Losers beat winners 148 to 139, with 69 shares unchanged on 356 traded. (Reuters)
