Local stocks continue to rise for a second day

Stocks continued their northbound course on the local bourse on Thursday bolstered by a strong showing by banks as the European Central Bank maintained its benchmark interest rate at the level of 1 percent.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended the day at 632.19 points, adding 0.49 percent to Wednesday?s closing figure of 629.08 points.

The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index grew by 1.15 percent to close at 243.60 points.

Marfin Investment Group soared 9.14 percent, ahead of Hellenic Postbank (up 6.23 percent) and Piraeus Bank (4.39 percent). Mytilineos lost 3.33 percent.

In total, 100 stocks registered gains, 53 posted losses and 21 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 32.4 million euros, down from Wednesday?s 33.7 million.
