Stocks ease on quiet day

A quiet trading day on Tuesday at the Greek bourse ended with little movement for many stocks and a small drop for most indices, despite a surge of interest in mid-caps.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 1,611.21 points, dropping by 0.18 percent from Monday?s close at 1,614.13 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index contracted by 0.48 percent to end at 750.10 points, although the mid-cap FTSE/ ATHEX 40 index climbed 0.53 percent.

Viohalco led the blue chips with gains of 3.59 percent, followed by OPAP (up 3.06 percent), Motor Oil (2.73 percent), Titan Cement (2.40 percent) and Marfin Investment Group (2.38 percent). Heading south were Eurobank EFG (3.70 percent), Alpha Bank (3.56 percent) and Marfin Popular Bank (2.11 percent).

In total, 67 stocks moved up, 88 went down and 52 remained unchanged. Unibios led the gainers with growth of 14.29 percent, while Altec posted the biggest loss, also amounting to 14.29 percent.

Turnover came to just 90.8 million euros, down from 219.7 million on Monday.
